About El Cabina
El Cabina (Cabinet) is a new art space in Alexandria for experimentation and rehearsal by young local artists, musicians and writers. El Cabina is currently undergoing final rehabilitation. El Cabina focuses on developing new and young audiences and providing support for emerging artists. By creating a cafe, a recording studio, and a reading room with WIFI access El Cabina will attempt to attract new audiences and generate income with an affordable membership plan.
Located in what had been an abandoned control room of an old famous cinema, “The Rialto,” the Cabinet will provide a safe and alternative space for both artists and audiences to freely experiment, rehearse, and present local cultural production. El Cabina will also provide training spaces and diverse learning opportunities through workshops.
An underground room that was once reserved for the cinema’s AC system has been converted to a music studio and jamming rehearsal space for local musicians and bands as well as performing arts/theater artists. El Cabina will also provide these artists the opportunity to present works in progress or small events/performances. The space will also have sections dedicated to the presentation of visual arts. El Cabina also has a small garden space that can be used as a music venue. All the aforementioned artistic spaces combined make El Cabina the only venue of its kind for the youth of Alexandria.
